The driver and his second man were trapped when their diesel train smashed into the back of another train in fog near Finsbury Park Station today. For 20 minutes firemen wrenched at the twisted metal of the cab to free the men.As they did so they chatted to driver William Jackson, 37 - He was trapped by his legs and his mate. John Sygrove.hen they were free. Ambulancemen broke a hole in wooden fencing near the edge of the track and carried Mr. Jackson on a stretcher up the grassy bank through the hole and 100 yards to the ambulance.
Mr. Jackson of Crentham Green, Boreham Wood. Herts was taken to the Royal Northern Hospital with leg injuries.
Second man, Sygrove, aged 18 of Romford Road, Manor Park was taken to hospital but left after treatment.

Said a raillwayman: "The trapped men didn't panic at all. We talked to them and said You will soon be out and they just smiled. But the driver must have been in great pain. His leg was badly hurt." The crash happened at 7:40 just as the rush-hour was building up at the Oxford Road Junction, Seven Sisters Road. Passengers waiting for their heard the sound of the crash through the fog as the empty stock which was to have made up the 9 a.m. Kings Cross-Newcastle express ran into the rear of stock for the 820 a.m. to Doncaster. There were heavy delays to suburban trains into King's Cross. Moorgate and Broad Street from Hatfield and Hertford. Two trains had to be cancelled the 7:56 a.m. from Hertford North to Moorgate and the 8:22 a.m. from Barnet to Broad Street. The Up slow line was closed while an inspection was carried out.
